Leave No Trace

By admin on 14/07/2022

Trails in WA have a leave no trace policy.

The 7 Leave No Trace Principles are:

  1. Plan ahead and prepare
  2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces
  3. Dispose of waste properly
  4. Leave what you find
  5. Minimise campfire impact
  6. Respect wildlife
  7. Be considerate of others

This means whatever you bring on the trail with you comes out with you too. All rubbish must be carried with you, so think carefully about the amount of packaging that you are taking with you. How will you carry all the rubbish you generate? Where do you plan to dispose of it? Will you have a supply drop that can collect your rubbish?

There are also specific rules about toileting and camping near water catchment area’s that you will need to comply with if this applies to your hike. Check with the land manager before you go.

Sticking to trails and camping in designated camping areas will help to avoid disturbing the flora and fauna of the area. There are also regulations restricting the picking of native vegetation which you need to adhere to as-well.
